Cookin' Man - Part III

The new-meat-for-Sunday-dinner tradition continues. But this time, Ty redeemed himself.

Grilled flounder and cilantro lime rice tacos. This was the first time fish has ever been cooked in our kitchen...ever. And it was delicious. I'm broadening my horizons, people!

Week at Grandma's House

Ty had to go out of town for the week, so Jack and I packed our bags and headed to Grandma's house. I love going there because the time flies by so fast! We had a great time and Jack got spoiled like crazy.

Mom and I went a little quilt crazy. We finished two baby quilt tops and started a third. See more about them at my new quilting blog here.

New Bed

Jack got a new bed! He loved his toddler bed, but was coming in our room just about every night to tell us he had fallen out of bed. He was just too big for it. We found this bed on Craig's List for $15 and picked it up last night. He was a little sad, at first, to see us take his old bed down, but he was very excited to find that all of his stuffed animals could fit in the new bed. Here he is showing it off:

Cookin' Man - Part II

Thank you to all of you who were so kind to leave positive comments on my post I Love a Cookin' Man. However, I'm afraid you were all just a little too encouraging...because tonight, Ty volunteered to make dinner again...and this is what we ended up with...

Look closely...this is not beef...it's not even buffalo...

Tonight for dinner, we ate mule deer burgers.

A couple of weeks ago, Ty brought home some deer that a friend at work gave him. It got thrown in the freezer and I was secretly hoping that we would both just forget about it. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Let's just say that if it weren't for the delicious homemade BBQ sauce that Ty smothered the burgers in, I wouldn't have taken a single bite. I'm just glad that it's all over.

This same friend also gave us some wild hog. Any takers?

Arizona Science Center

On Saturday, we took Jack to the Arizona Science Center in Downtown Phoenix. We went with our friends Lori and Allen Frost and their cute kids. We had a great time exploring the exhibits and learning about science, especially because we got in free using a pass from our library! Here's a few pictures of Jack playing around:

The Homestead

We went on a little cabin retreat to my sister-in-law's family cabin--what we lovingly refer to as "The Homestead." It's about 30 miles east of Show Low and just about the most gorgeous place you can imagine. The weather was nice and cool and we enjoyed the rain. We had a blast with Sam, Jennie, Paul, Anna, Jason, and the kids.

Jack was so excited to be "camping" that the first morning there, he ventured out in his slippers through the mud to go play on a golf cart...unaided. It took us about 5 minutes to find him once we realized he wasn't in the cabin.

We climbed to the top of a forest ranger's tower on Green's Peak and had an awesome view. It was a little foggy, though, so the picture doesn't quite do it justice.

Thanks Tingey family for letting us crash your awesome cabin!
