Lake Powell

We just got back from a very fun-filled, relaxing vacation at Lake Powell. We stayed on a houseboat with all of Ty's family (minus Cody's family) for 3 days. We had a similar trip last year, but I was 8 1/2 months pregnant, so it was a lot more fun this time! Basically, all we did was eat, swim, play, and eat some more. Here are a bunch of pictures from the trip:

Playing on jet skis (Story: this was the first time in my life on one. First, we took Jack with us, so Ty drove nice and slow. Then Jack got off and let's just say I have never screamed so much in my whole life. Ty maxed out at 57 mph and didn't hold back on his crazy driving skills. After the 360, I told him he needed to take me back to the boat! The next day, I finally warmed up to them and rode one all by myself. I got brave enough to go about 45 mph, but that's about it. They are a blast!)

Jack's Birthday Party

Tonight was Jack's birthday party. We had a lot of fun, family, and food! Since Jack loves Finding Nemo, we decided to make the whole party have a Nemo theme. I made an awesome cake for him (hours and hours of work, by the way...) and we also had hot dogs, side dishes, ice cream, and a Texas sheet cake. Jack got his very own cupcake and he loved it. Hopefully he doesn't get a tummy ache tonight! Thanks to everyone who came!

The year in pictures

Since it's Jack's FIRST birthday today, I thought it would be fun to make a post of what the last year has been like for our family. I really can't believe that it has already been a year since he was born. So much has changed.

Last belly pic: Sunday, September 9, 2007. I thought that my water had partially broken, so I posed before we went to the hospital. Turns out that my bladder was basically just releasing a slow, steady stream of urine that morning. Lovely. We were surprised to find out, though, that I was dilated to a 3 and my cervix almost looked "ready." I wasn't due until the 27th, so we didn't expect to hear this at all.

Monday, September 10, 7 pm. I was hanging out in the HBLL while Ty was working in the accounting lab. He tells me that I need to go walk up and down the stairs to get things "moving." So, I did the stairs for a few minutes and then definitely felt some strong contractions. I wasn't recording or timing them, though. I didn't think it was possible for me to be in labor yet.

11 pm. Ty and I are lying in bed and I can't sleep! I have the worst meunstral cramp feelings you can imagine. Ty convinces me to start timing how long and how far apart the pains are - they're textbook. We decide to go to the hospital, so I jump in the shower and do my hair.

Tuesday, September 11, 12:30 am. We get to the hospital and find out that I am having "perfect" contractions, but that my cervix is still at a 3 and needs a few more hours. The nurse gives me a shot of morphine to help with the pain and tells us to go home and try to get some sleep. I tell her that this is depressing news, but she promises that the baby will come today.

6:30 am. I wake up and can tell the the morphine has totally worn off. I'm in pain!!! I forget about showering again and doing my make-up. I could really care less at this point. We get to the hospital (our THIRD time) and wait for what feels like an eternity in the waiting room. I watch as a lady (who barely even looks pregnant) gets checked in by the nurse at the front desk. She's got her hair all curled and is all dressed up in a cute little outfit with heels on. Sick. The nurse is trying to hurry her along because she's 25 minutes late for her scheduled c-section and everyone's waiting on her. I'm in shock that this little muffin is getting all the attention while I'm dying unnoticed. If she's late, then I think she's missed her chance! I'm ready to go punch her in the face, but somehow, I keep my cool.

8 am. We finally get checked into a room and the nurse tells us that I'm dilated to a 5. She promises the epidural will come soon--as soon as the anesthesiologist is done with the late "scheduled" chick.

10:45 am. The epidural!!! Right afterward, the nurse tells me that I'm at a 7. I take a nap...

3:45 pm. I am fully dilated and effaced. Everything looks good to go. By 4:15 pm, Dr. Broadbent gives me permission to start pushing while he heads to the hospital.

4:26 pm. The nurse can see Jack's head, so she tells me to stop while we wait for the doctor. He arrives at 4:32 and by 4:36, Jack is out and screaming!

The beaver strikes again...

So, remember the problem we had with Jack chewing through the paint on his crib? Well, my very wise father-in-law found a solution. He emailed a link to a product on Amazon called a Gummi crib rail. It goes over the wood to protect it and your child can still chew on it. It looked and worked great:
...until today. Jack went down for a nap, but had trouble falling asleep. I could hear that he was just playing, though, so I just left him in for about 45 minutes. After awhile, he got really quiet. Too quiet. I went to check on him and he had totally pried the crib guard off in one spot. He had been gnawing on the paint in the little spot he worked up and now it won't re-adhere to the crib. I think he got the glue too wet with his slobber.

Ty says we'll have to use crazy glue now. Way to go, Jack. And here's the guilty culprit himself:
