Big Boy, Big Changes

This has been a big week for Jack. For the first time, he got out of his crib. Actually, he fell out. And landed on his head. And scared his mother half to death. So, Jack now sleeps in a toddler bed! He lovingly calls it "new bed" and asks to play in it all day.

I'm not going to sugar coat things: the first night was awful. He woke up at 1am and kept coming into our room and trying to get in bed with us. We put him back in his bed over and over again. By 2am, we decided to lock his door, but it didn't take long for him to figure it out. By 3am, a very frustrated daddy flipped on all the lights and pulled his tools out so he could switch the doorknob around, while Jack wailed in the background. It was actually kind of funny--I should have pulled out the video camera. By this time, Jack was so upset that he couldn't calm down, so Ty had to lay on the ground next to him and hold his hand. By 4am, Jack was asleep again. Since his doorknob now locks from the hallway, things have been much better and I think he finally understands that even though he can get out of bed, he shouldn't.

The second big change for Jack this week has been potty-training! Monday was a "trial run" and since he went potty every time I stuck him on the toilet, I figured it was time we train him. Even though he hasn't gone #2 on the toilet yet, he hasn't had any #1 accidents in the last two days. Hooray!

He looks pretty cute up there, don't you think?

I am so jealious about the potty training. I can't get Janalee to even sit long enough on the potty to do anything. She will only sit for like 20-30 seconds at a time. Please tell me your secret!
Way to go Jack new bed and going potty like a big boy!!!!

Little Jack is growing up! I wish you had video taped that incident on the first night in his "new bed" that sounds like it would be pretty funny to watch. Miss you guys a bunch!

Oh yeah. He's got a good looking pillow case. I wonder where you got that. :) Love ya!

So, did he say "boo" when he came out? He only got out of his guest bed twice.

That is great that he is making so much progress!!

Wow he's growing up so fast. Good work on the potty training. I've heard that's more work on mom than on the child. Also, did you make that giraffe costume? It is so dang cute. Nice job if you did. You are amazing with a sewing machine and fabric. Happy way late birthday. Sean and I thought of you on your special day and I never got around to calling or texting. Happy 24th. Love ya.

Joyous times, eh? Keep it up even though it can be discouraging! You're brave to tackle both things at once!

Hurray for the big boy! You know, when Brad and I moved into our apartment one of the bedroom doors had the lock on the outside. We laughed about it and thought, "We'll never have to use that." HA! We use it all the time. And I'm thinking that I'm going to switch Elyse's before too long since the kids go in there and lock themselves in. Sometimes I feel like the wicked step mother from Cinderella, but overall it's a good thing.

These milestone potty pictures are what makes being a parent great. They can be used later if needed and are a good reminder that this little boy was little once no matter how big he gets.
